Why Do Ice Cream and Juicy Burgers Make You Over-Eat?
Well, we know the answer: because they’re TASTY! But do you know why they are tasty? Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center found out that a particular type of fat called palmitic acid tricks the brain into sending messages telling the body to ignore the signal saying that you’ve had enough food. Since your body is told you don’t have enough food yet, you keep eating. No wonder why certain foods taste so good.
This fat (palmatic acid) is saturated fat, and is definitely not good for the body. You can find it in almost every “tasty” food, such as butter, cheese, milk, and beef. A scoop of rich and creamy, full-fat ice cream is tasty, but since it is full of saturated fat AND sugar, it is definitely really bad for your body. Although you don’t need to say goodbye to ice cream,
if you are serious about your health, you really need to watch out for the saturated fats in your diet.
Although it is not quite tasty as full-fat dairy products, you may want to try soy-based ice cream, cheese, or olive oil based “butter” spread. If you want to enjoy beef or other types of meat, be sure to get fresh, non-processed, lean meats, and use a meat tenderizer (both mechanical and enzyme based). Cook with extra-virgin olive oil.
Anyway, enjoy variety of healthy, low-fat foods!
