Losing Weight Without Working Out

Athlete woman is running during winter training outside in cold snow weather.

Working out in a cooler environment makes you lose more body fat.

Do you know what the main uses of the energy are that our body uses everyday? The largest use of energy is to maintain our organs, such as the brain and the heart. Then the energy is used to keep our body temperature steady. Depending on the surrounding temperature, our body spends between a few percent to nearly 30% of its daily energy consumption in this way.

Change Your Personality to Improve Your Health.

If you are happy with yourself, you will be healthier.

We cannot deny that we are born with some sort of personalities. One recent statistical study shows that genetics affect our character traits such as self-control and sociability far more than we thought previously. Another study found that nice people are born with “niceness” genes. Indeed, our personality affects our daily life a lot.

For example, when comparing between a person with out-going traits and one with shy traits, the latter takes, on average, 5 years longer to get married, and earns as much as 20% less income at a similar educational background. That is huge.

Looking for Magic Weight Loss Pills? Forget About It!

A pile of weight loss supplments

Most weight loss supplements do not do anything without a workout.

Everyone wants to lose weight in an easy way and are willing to spend tons of money to do so. When there is money there will be con artists.

The weight loss supplement is a $2.4 billion dollar industry which is still growing rapidly without much of governmental regulations or even an industry standard. Unlike medicine, supplements are categorized under “food” and they don’t need to go through a rigorous scientific process before selling their products. Some are ineffective and do nothing, but some are actually harmful for the body.

More on Sugar: Sugar is a Poison

Bottles of soft drinks

Three extra cans of soft drink may cut your life expectation significantly.

We all know that excess sugar is not good for our body. It makes us fat and possibly leads to cardiovascular diseases, but do you know how much is too much? Well, researchers at University of Utah found that it is about three cans of a soft drink…

OK, they did not try this on people, but tested its toxicity on mice. They fed 25% extra sugar to the mouse (it is the equivalent of three cans of soft drinks for people). They found that female mice died twice as quickly compared to the mice that did not eat 25% more sugar. Male mice could not keep their territories and they were less likely to have offspring (which means that you won’t get a lady friend, gentlemen!)

Sugars…

A pile of sugar

Sugary food makes you hungry and makes you eat more… yes, it makes you fat!

Everyone has experienced a sugar high and low, right? After eating a big piece of chocolate cake, you feel great, but in about 30 minutes, suddenly you get tired. This is because blood sugar (glucose) surges up just after eating the sweet, and you get a large amount of an energy source in the blood. However, the large quantity of the sugar stimulates the brain to send a signal to the pancreas to create tons of insulin and the insulin converts the blood sugar into glycogen, which is stored in the cells. This creates a sudden drop in the blood sugar level. That is why you feel tired.

More on A Good Night Sleep

A good night sleep enhances the health benefit of your healthy life style farther.

If you have been reading my blogs for a while, you already know that sleep is really important for our health. If we don’t get enough sleep, we gain weight and eventually we may suffer from cardiovascular disease. A recent study done at the University of Pennsylvania reaffirmed this. The researchers found that people who slept 4 hours between 4am to 8am for five consecutive days gained far more weight than people who slept normal amounts.
